SSE 3312 Teaching Social Science in Elementary Schools

In this course, students explore the knowledge and skills for teachers in Elementary Education K-6 Social Studies. Content includes Elementary-level social studies content; state social studies standards; instructional and assessment strategies; designing social studies curriculum and lesson plans; and using data to inform instruction and improvements. This course addresses elementary pedagogical content knowledge for teaching the strands in the Florida standards for social studies and the Elementary Education K-6 Florida Teacher Certification Examination competencies in social studies. In addition, five observation hours of social science teaching at the elementary level are required. The district may require a fee for background checks in order for students to observe a social science teacher in a school.
