Anti-Hazing Policy
To promote a healthy environment that fosters student success, the College shall not tolerate hazing, as defined below, at or on any College property or at any College-sponsored or College-affiliated event, on or off any campus or center. Hazing is strictly prohibited at the college either on or off campus.
Hazing means any action or situation which recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with any organization operating under the sanction of the College, hereinafter referred to as a “College organization.” Such term shall include, but not be limited to, any brutality of a physical nature, such as whipping, beating, branding, forced calisthenics; exposure to the elements, forced consumption of any food, liquor, drug, or other substance; or any other forced physical activity which could adversely affect the physical health or safety of the individual, and shall include any activity which would subject the individual to extreme mental stress, such as sleep deprivation, forced exclusion from social contact, forced conduct which could result in extreme embarrassment, or any other forced activity which could adversely affect the mental health or dignity of the individual.
Penalties
Penalties for violation of this policy shall be administered in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct; subject, however, to any limitations or additional penalties contained in F.S. 1006.63.
Such penalties at the College may include the imposition of fines; the withholding of diplomas or transcripts pending compliance with the rules or pending payment of fines; and the imposition of probation, suspension, and/or expulsion from the College. In the case of an organization/club at the College which authorizes hazing in blatant disregard of such rules, penalties may also include rescission of permission for that organization to operate on campus property or to otherwise operate under the sanction of the College. All penalties imposed under the authority of this Policy and the Student Code of Conduct shall be in addition to any penalty imposed for violation of any of the criminal laws of this State or for violation of any other rule of the College to which the violator may be subject. For more information on this policy, see IRSC District Board of Trustees Policy #5330.
