STS V003 Introduction to Surgical Technology (N)
This course discusses operating room theory and the role of the surgical technologist in the operating room and related areas. Principles of pathology and basic concepts of microbiology are studied as they apply to the practice of surgery. Instrumentation identification, care and use, sterilization and aseptic techniques are emphasized. Duties and responsibilities of the perioperative team are defined. Concepts of surgical consciousness and critical thinking are developed.
