EEX 4760 Assistive Technology for Students with Autism
In this course, students explore educational and Assistive Technology (AT) used for instruction of students with low incidence disabilities including students with autism. Opportunities for special educators and others to analyze and apply research-based strategies in the application of AT in classrooms, schools, and school districts is included. Teachers critically examine strategies for creating supportive environments for students to effectively use high and low tech AT devices, including those for augmentative/alternative communication systems. Particular attention is given to issues related to AT assessment, implementation, and prevention of AT discontinuance in collaboration with other professionals and family members. A field experience component is required.
